To Our Valued Patrons and Friends:

(scroll to the bottom of the page for most current info)

As proprietor of the Presidio Bowling Center for the past thirteen years, I hope you have enjoyed coming to our facility as much as I have enjoyed running it.  I call it “our” facility because along with 25 of the best employees in San Francisco, you have helped to make this a special place in the Presidio.

On Wednesday August 8th 2007, the Presidio Trust announced that Donald and Doris Fisher, founders of The Gap, offered to build a world-class contemporary art museum for our city.  They have an incredible collection that is said to be valued at over a billion dollars.  The Fishers would like to endow the costs for the design, construction and operations of the museum to the Presidio. One of the proposed sites for that museum is the current location of the bowling center.

While the preferred museum plan calls for the demolition of the bowling center, I believe with the help of the Fishers, and the Presidio Trust we can build an even better bowling center than the current center.  The city of San Francisco deserves a world class bowling center AND a world class museum.

Our current lease is set to expire April 30th 2009.  I personally hope to plan, build and manage that world-class bowling center somewhere on the grounds of the Presidio. We will need your support to ensure this happens in a timely way, with minimal disruption to the services we provide to our community.  Closing the bowling center for even one day should not be an option.

We are currently preparing a proposal to move the bowling center to a Crissy Field location.  It is our hope any project that would cause the current bowling center to be demolished would be compelled to finance the rebuilding of the bowling center elsewhere in the Presidio.  This Presidio Trust has done this in the past.

On June 9th 2008, the Presidio Trust released a Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement concerning the Main Post area of the Presidio.  It can be viewed at  The Statement has several alternatives which call for the demolition of the bowling center.  The Presidio Trust has once again postponed the Public Board Meeting.  The new date is set for December 9th 2008 at 6PM. The meeting will be held at The Palace of Fine Arts Theatre located at 3301 Lyon Street, San Francisco.  Your voice will be necessary to save the Presidio Bowling Center.  Go to for more info.  Please send a copy of your electronic comments to

On September 15, 2008 the Presidio Trust rejected the Presidio Bowling Center's proposal to build a new facility in the Crissy Field area of the park.  Please attend the public meeting or submit an electronic comment if you want bowling to remain in the Presidio.

At the December 9th public meeting, the Presidio Trust announced that a supplement to the draft supplemental environmental statement would be created and released sometime in January 2009. (Yes, a supplement to the supplement).  The supplement is supposed to be a new version of the museum plan that will conform to the historical constraints for new construction in the Presidio.  The new plan will still call for the demolition of the bowling center.  The public comment period will be open for an additional 45 days after the release of the document.  Please continue to post comments in support of the bowling center at  We are still trying to work with the Presidio Trust on lease extensions as well as finding a new home for bowling, but to date we have not been successful.  The Presidio Trust has been unable to find a suitable location to build a new bowling center.  Your comments are necessary to champion our cause.

March 17, 2009

The Presidio Trust has released the supplementary content for the documents regarding the Main Post and the propsed art museum.  The new information still calls for our demolition and as of today, our lease is set to expire at the end of April.  You can read more about the project at  The Presidio Trust Board of Directors will have another public meeting on April 7th 2009.  You may submit comments electronically to or you may speak publically at The Presidio Trust Public Board Meeting.  The new date is set for April 7th 2009 at 6:30PM. The meeting will be held at The Palace of Fine Arts Theatre located at 3301 Lyon Street, San Francisco.  Your voice will be necessary to save the Presidio Bowling Center.  Go to for more info.  Strong bowling center patron support will help our cause to stay open as long as possible.

April 28, 2009

We have been granted another lease extension through the end of May 2009.  We are still actively working with the Presidio Trust for further lease extensions.  We are still hoping to execute a lease agreement with the Presidio Trust to move to Crissy Field.  Please continue to send comments to the Presidio Trust in our support at this location or at a Crissy Field location.

May 27, 2009

Thanks to all of your support the Presidio Trust has agreed to allow us to stay open while the Main Post planning continues.  As of today, the Presidio Bowling Center will remain open on a 30-day basis.  This means that the Presidio will give us 30 days to wind up business once the fate of the Main Post area is decided.  We will be taking reservations up to 45 days in advance.  Please be aware that if we were forced to close before your event, your deposit money would be returned.

August 4, 2009

While Donald Fisher has withdrawn his proposal to build a museum at our location, our fate remains undetermined.  The Presidio Trust will continue with their Main Post planning and the final documentation should become available by the end of the year.  That documentation will outline the uses for our site and possibly denote how long we will be able to remain in our current location.  Thank you for all of your past and future support.

October 19, 2009

We are still working with the Presidio Trust for a lease extension.  Currently they have informed us that eventually our site will be used for some other purpose.  They have not given us a closing date or any idea how long we will be able to operate in our current location.  We still have a proposal to move on file with the Presidio Trust, but have not received a formal letter regarding the status of that proposal.

June 1, 2010

We are currently on a rolling 90-day lease.  This means that we will be open for 90 days from the date the Presidio Trust informs us they wish to terminate our lease.  Please feel free to email the Presidio Trust at if you would like to comment on the situation.

We will make every effort to keep you up to date on our progress.  Thank you again for your past and future support.
